Decanter May 2023 95 points

The first vintage from Sam Kurtz and Bernadette Kaeding’s 5ha vineyard in the northern Barossa sub-region of Ebenezer, which they purchased in 1996. Doing everything themselves (now with son Raj’s help) from pruning to bottling – including labels designed and affixed by Kaeding – this 2004 vintage was fermented with wild yeasts in open-top vats, with some whole-bunch fruit used, basket pressed then aged 15 months in seasoned French oak.

Decanter Judges Comments:

Justin Knock MW  An alluring perfume of red fruits and a range of Indian spices. Creamy, effortlessly charming palate with layers of liquorice, red leather and fine, long tannins. Truly delicious.

Tina Gellie  Heady leather, tertiary notes, savoury coffee, dusty cupboards. Firm acid and still juicy dark fruit and refreshing acidity. Maturing gracefully.

Roger Jones Coconut, bonfire, dark berries and cedar, lovely big aromatics. Elegant on first taste, notes of cola and herbs, evolving with olives, vanilla, cedar and bacon.
